When is the best time to climb Naya Kanga Peak?

The best seasons for climbing Naya Kanga are pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November). During these periods, the weather is relatively stable, skies are clear, and mountain views are spectacular.

Do I need prior climbing experience to attempt Naya Kanga?

While prior mountaineering experience is helpful, it is not mandatory. Beginners with good physical fitness can attempt the peak under the guidance of experienced Sherpas, who provide technical support, safety instructions, and acclimatization guidance.

Naya Kanga Peak, also known as Ganja La Chuli, rises to 5,844 meters and is one of the most popular trekking peaks in the Langtang region of Nepal. Renowned for its stunning panoramic views of both Nepalese and Tibetan mountains, it has become a sought-after destination for mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts. Since it opened for climbing, we have successfully organized numerous expeditions to Naya Kanga, guided by our highly experienced Sherpas and climbing experts.

The Langtang region is ideal for peak climbing due to its easy accessibility and the presence of several nearby snow peaks perfect for acclimatization. Many smaller peaks in the area require little or no previous climbing experience, making it a great introduction to mountaineering in Nepal. The standard route for Naya Kanga is via the North-East Ridge, a classic alpine line of snow and ice.

The Langtang Valley, located roughly 30 kilometers north of Kathmandu near the Tibetan border, offers breathtaking rewards. From the summit of Naya Kanga or the nearby Ganja La Pass (5,122m), climbers can enjoy panoramic views of Langshisa Ri (6,370m), Pemthang Ri (6,836m), Shisapangma (8,013m), Langtang Lirung (7,425m), Pemthang Kapro Ri (6,830m), and Langtang II (6,571m).

Naya Kanga Peak climbing in Langtang region is famous for short trekking peak climbing. The Naya Kanga peak lies inside the Langtang National Park which was designated as first Himalayan National Park in 1970 AD. The formal name of the peak is Ganja La Chuli which is 5844m high from the sea level.

The trekking route of Naya Kanga Peak Climbing passes through the different small settlements of diverse ethnic groups which gives us opportunity to interact with locals and learn about their unique traditions, culture, lifestyles and spiritual connection with the High Himalayas. The beautiful forests, rivers, streams, waterfalls and dramatic mountains make our trip more exciting. While passing through the Langtang National Park there is huge chance of encountering the wild animals and beautiful birds. Climbing Naya Kanga will be a life time memory because of its adventures activities, eye catching natural beauties and great hospitality of locals on the trail.

Naya Kanga (5,844 m) is considered as a difficult trekking peak climbing compared to other peaks in Nepal. This peak rises to the west of Ganja La and the normal route to this peak follows the snowy northeast ridge. Still the first climber of this peak is not announced. The stunning peaks summit provides the amazing views of Langtang Lirung (7246m), Lenpo Gang 7083m), and Dorje Lakpa (6990m) and mighty Shishapangma (8027m) in Tibetan side.

Day 01 :

Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be warmly welcomed by our team. After airport transfer to your hotel, you can relax and recover from your journey. In the evening, there will be a briefing session about the Naya Kanga Peak expedition, including route details, safety measures, and preparation tips. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 02 :

Kathmandu Sightseeing

After breakfast, embark on a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu’s cultural and historical landmarks. Visit iconic sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Patan Durbar Square to experience the rich heritage, art, and spirituality of Nepal. This day allows you to acclimatize slightly while exploring the city. In the evening, return to your hotel for a briefing session about the upcoming trek. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 03 :

Drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, Camp

After an early breakfast, begin the scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche, the gateway to the Langtang region. The journey takes approximately 6–7 hours, passing through picturesque landscapes, rivers, terraced fields, and traditional villages. Upon arrival in Dhunche, check in to your campsite or lodge. In the evening, rest and prepare for the trek ahead. Overnight stay in Dhunche.

Day 04 :

Trek from Dhunche to Syabrubesi (2,100m) – Camp

After breakfast, begin your trek from Dhunche to Syabrubesi, a scenic village nestled in the Langtang region. The trek takes approximately 5–6 hours, passing through charming forests, terraced fields, and small traditional settlements. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and the first glimpses of the surrounding Himalayan peaks along the way. Upon arrival in Syabrubesi, settle into your campsite or lodge, and spend the evening relaxing while soaking in the serene village atmosphere. Overnight stay in Syabrubesi.

Day 05 :

Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m) – Camp

After breakfast, continue your trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel, a journey of approximately 5–6 hours. The trail winds through lush forests of pine and rhododendron, alongside rivers and streams, offering beautiful views of the surrounding hills and mountains. Along the way, you may encounter local villages and have opportunities to observe the traditional lifestyle of the Langtang communities. Arrive at Lama Hotel, settle into your campsite or lodge, and relax for the evening. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.

Day 06 :

Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,500m) – Camp

After breakfast, trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village, which takes approximately 6–7 hours. The trail ascends gradually through beautiful forests of pine and rhododendron, crossing rivers and passing small local settlements. Enjoy the stunning views of snow-capped peaks as you approach Langtang Village, a serene Himalayan settlement. Upon arrival, settle into your campsite or guesthouse and take time to rest and acclimatize. Overnight stay in Langtang Village.

Day 07 :

Trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,800m) – Camp

After breakfast, begin the trek from Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa, which takes approximately 3 hours. The trail gradually ascends through alpine meadows and rocky paths, offering spectacular views of surrounding peaks and glaciers. Kyanjin Gompa is a peaceful Himalayan settlement known for its monastery and cheese-making traditions. Upon arrival, settle into your campsite or guesthouse, explore the village, and rest to acclimatize for the upcoming climb. Overnight stay in Kyanjin Gompa.

Day 08 :

Trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Naya Kanga Base Camp (4,400m) – Camp

After breakfast, trek from Kyanjin Gompa to Naya Kanga Base Camp, a journey of approximately 5 hours. The trail gradually ascends through alpine terrain with scattered boulders and moraine fields, offering breathtaking views of surrounding snow-capped peaks. Along the way, enjoy the pristine Himalayan landscape and prepare for the technical climb ahead. Upon arrival at Base Camp, set up your tents or lodge accommodation, rest, and get ready for the summit attempt. Overnight stay at Naya Kanga Base Camp.

Day 09 :

Acclimatization at Naya Kanga Base Camp (4,400m)

Today is dedicated to acclimatization at Naya Kanga Base Camp. Spend the day resting, exploring the surrounding alpine terrain, and preparing your body for the climb ahead. Your guides may lead a short hike to nearby vantage points for gentle altitude adaptation while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers. This day is crucial for proper acclimatization to increase your chances of a safe and successful summit. Overnight stay at Naya Kanga Base Camp.

Day 10 :

Climb from Naya Kanga Base Camp to High Camp (5,000m) – Camp

After breakfast, begin your climb from Naya Kanga Base Camp to High Camp, which takes approximately 4 hours. The trail gradually ascends through rocky and snowy terrain, offering stunning views of surrounding peaks and glaciers. Upon arrival at High Camp, set up your tents or lodge, rest, and prepare for the final summit attempt the following day. Overnight stay at High Camp.

Day 11 :

Summit Naya Kanga (5,844m) and Descend to Base Camp – 8–9 Hours

Today is the highlight of the expedition: the summit attempt of Naya Kanga Peak. Begin the climb early in the morning from High Camp, following the snowy North-East Ridge. The ascent offers a thrilling mix of snow, ice, and alpine terrain with breathtaking panoramic views of surrounding Himalayan peaks, including Langtang Lirung, Lenpo Gang, Dorje Lakpa, and Shishapangma in Tibet. After reaching the summit, spend some time taking in the spectacular scenery and capturing memories before carefully descending back to Base Camp. Overnight stay at Naya Kanga Base Camp.

Day 12 :

Trek from Naya Kanga Base Camp to Langtang Village via Kyanjin Gompa – 5–6 Hours

After breakfast, begin your descent from Naya Kanga Base Camp back toward Langtang Village, passing through Kyanjin Gompa. The trek takes approximately 5–6 hours and retraces the scenic alpine trails, offering more time to enjoy the stunning landscapes, glaciers, and surrounding peaks. Upon arrival in Langtang Village, rest and relax at your campsite or guesthouse, reflecting on the accomplishments of the summit. Overnight stay in Langtang Village.

Day 13 :

Trek from Langtang Village to Lama Hotel – 5–6 Hours

After breakfast, continue your descent from Langtang Village to Lama Hotel. The trek takes approximately 5–6 hours, passing through alpine meadows, forests, and small settlements. Enjoy the beautiful scenery one last time as you make your way back along the Langtang Valley. Upon arrival at Lama Hotel, rest and relax at your campsite or lodge, preparing for the final days of the trek. Overnight stay at Lama Hotel.

Day 14 :

Trek from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi – 5–6 Hours

After breakfast, continue your descent from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi. The trek takes approximately 5–6 hours, following scenic trails through lush forests, rivers, and local villages. Enjoy the last glimpses of the beautiful Langtang landscapes and interact with locals along the way. Upon arrival in Syabrubesi, check into your lodge or campsite and rest after the day’s trek. Overnight stay in Syabrubesi.

Day 15 :

Drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu (1,350m) – 6 Hours

After breakfast, depart from Syabrubesi and drive back to Kathmandu, a journey of approximately 6 hours. Enjoy the scenic landscapes along the way, including terraced fields, rivers, and traditional villages. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, check into your hotel and spend the evening relaxing. This marks the end of the trekking portion of your expedition. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Day 16 :

Final Departure from Kathmandu

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight. Depart Kathmandu with unforgettable memories of your Naya Kanga Peak expedition, the stunning Langtang landscapes, and the cultural experiences along the trail.
